How Will the Sumner Tunnel Closure Affect My Trip in Boston?

Please be advised that delays should be expected on trips in and out of Boston during the summer season. But don't fret! We have some tips to help you reach Boston without the headache.

Here are our latest recommendations:

While typical delays range from 15 to 30 minutes, it is important to note that traffic patterns can be unpredictable.

  • Give Yourself Extra Travel Time:  We strongly recommend departing earlier.

To minimize any interruptions, we recommend giving yourself an extra 60 minutes prior to your anticipated arrival time. For instance, if you plan to take the 2:00pm bus from Portsmouth to arrive at Logan at 3:30pm, we advise taking the 1:00pm bus to ensure ample time.

Remember that Logan Airport recommends arriving 2 hours prior to departure time for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights.

  • Check Google Maps:  Navigation Apps are helpful tools to check current traffic conditions based on real-time data.

  • Travel Off-Peak Times: If possible, plan your trip during off-peak hours when traffic is lighter.

  • Check the Sumner Tunnel website for updates.

Our team is closely monitoring roadway traffic patterns.  Our scheduled arrival times have been adjusted to more accurately accommodate short delays.
