Why is C&J Charging for Parking?

January 13th, 2025 we’re moving to a paid parking system to ensure parking spaces are available for our customers, reduce misuse, and help us maintain and improve our facilities.

All of our facilities face parking challenges. Free parking has resulted in parking abuse – such as long-term vehicle storage, improper disposal, and even individuals residing in vehicles on our lots. As we’ve successfully demonstrated in Seabrook, transitioning to paid parking enables us to better manage these issues and maintain a safer, more organized environment for everyone.

Fee-based parking will help ensure parking is available for the customers who need it most, while allowing us to reduce misuse and make key improvements—especially when it comes to safety and security.

Our terminals require ongoing regular and capital maintenance to ensure that your experience safe, secure and user-friendly facilities. As one of the only 24-hour transportation centers in New England, C&J will use parking fees to directly support these efforts and keep operations running smoothly.

We’re making safety a top priority by enhancing parking security right from the start, giving you greater peace of mind whenever you park with us.

We know this is a change, but paid parking is the standard at most major transportation hubs, and we’ve done our best to keep it simple and affordable. Thank you for your understanding as we work to make your experience even better.

What This Change Means for You:

  • Easy Access: Paid parking will ensure that spaces are available for C&J customers when you need them, reducing misuse, enhancing security, and making your travel experience smoother.
  • Affordable and Competitive Pricing: At just $4 per day, our parking rates are among the lowest in the region, offering an affordable option that’s less expensive than most major hubs—and even cheaper than your daily cup of coffee.
  • Expanded Services: Immediate service enhancements, including the return of the 1:10 AM departure from Boston Logan Airport, real-time bus-tracking software, and increased service frequency in early 2025.
  • Enhanced Security: We’re investing in improved parking security measures—including gated lots, additional cameras, and emergency call systems to ensure rider safety and peace of mind.
  • Investing in Facilities: Revenue from parking will fund facility upkeep, security enhancements, and other improvements to maintain the exceptional service you deserve.
  • Aligning with Industry Standards: Paid parking is standard at nearly all major transportation hubs, including airports, MBTA, and Amtrak Downeaster. We’ve also been using a paid parking model at our Seabrook facility since 2020, so this change brings our other locations in line with what’s already working well.
  • Supporting Communities: A portion of the parking fees will contribute to state and local initiatives, including programs managed by the Pease Development Authority and local municipalities, helping to enhance the communities we’re proud to serve.

Public-Private Partnership to Drive Innovation and Accessibility

Secure fee-based parking will be supported through a Public-Private Partnership (P3) agreement with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT). This collaborative process leverages private investment to improve critical transportation infrastructure in New Hampshire. Following the success of similar partnerships, such as the Hooksett Welcome Centers, this reduces upfront costs and preserves essential budget resources for other infrastructure priorities. C&J will take on capital investments, routine maintenance, and enhanced facilities security, exemplifying a win-win model for taxpayers, travelers, and the business community.

“We are excited about our future partnership with C&J,” said Andre Briere, Deputy Commissioner of NHDOT. “This agreement demonstrates how public-private collaboration can deliver innovative solutions to meet public needs. By expanding services, improving infrastructure, and enhancing facilities, we invest in the future of transportation and the communities we proudly serve.”

We understand that change can sometimes take some getting used to, but we’re confident this will ultimately help us continue to offer the high-quality, stress-free experience you expect from C&J. Thank you for your understanding and continued support—we’re proud to serve such a loyal and supportive community.
